Slipping in a store, tripping down the stairs and falling down escalators; those are all serious accidents that are the largest single cause of brain injuries across the globe on a yearly basis. They are also very well known for causes of spinal cord and back injuries. And falls are usually at fault for multiple serious, life threatening injuries to senior citizens, including broken bones and hip injuries. In order for you to become compensated for the accident if you were not at fault, you need to first be in touch with a personal injury law firm. If you have been involved in a slip, trip or fall accident, you must take serious actions to protect yourself and preserve your case.

Accidents

Below you will find eight things you should do when you have been involved in an slip, trip or fall accident:

Report The Fall: As soon as the incident happens make sure you go and report your fall to the property owner and or employee immediately.

Seek Medical Help:  If you are injured even only by a small scrape, seek and obtain the appropriate medical treatment. As soon as the property owners see you they should automatically know to ask if you need medical assistance or an ambulance.

Medical Help

Identify The Cause: The next thing you should do is identify why you fell in the first place. Was it a form of a liquid substance or did you trip over a ladder? Find out what and why you fell and get as much details as possible.

Witnesses: This is where your phone could come in handy; record all the names, addresses and telephone numbers of all witnesses that saw you fall and find out what exactly they saw happen. Ask as many questions if possible to find out if they knew how and why you tripped or fell.

Witnesses

Photos: Again this is where your cell phone can come in handy, if not try and use one of the witnesses cell phone to take pictures of where you fell. Take pictures of where the liquid substance was or where the ladder was. Take pictures of the surroundings of where the accident took place as well as a picture of your injuries and clothing. If a few days later you come to realize you received bruises from your fall, take pictures of the bruises in a good lighting area.

Identify Employees: Any employee you spoke to or was around when you fell be sure to take down their name.

Obtain Copies Of Incident Reports/Photographs: The owner of the property should conduct an investigation with a report along with take pictures of the area the fall happened in. They may even require taking pictures of you and your clothing especially if you have any visible cuts, bruises and injuries. Be sure to ask for the incident number and copies of the reports along with the photographs, but be aware they may refuse to do so because the information is proprietary.

Recorded Statements: Within days of your accident an insurance company will contact you and will request a recorded statement, but do not give a statement or answer any questions until you have spoken to a lawyer. The whole purpose of the recorded statement is so the lawyer and insurance company can eliminate responsibility from the owner of the property that you were primarily at fault for the accident.
